## FAQ

**When should you book wedding vendors?**

Book the venue first, and a planner if you want one, about 12 months out according to Zola. The Knot's booking timeline is earlier: venue, planner, caterer, photographer and videographer 12 to 18 months out; music, florist, officiant, and hair and makeup 9 to 12 months out; cake, rentals and transportation 6 to 9 months out.

**How does the vendor booking timeline work?**

Book-by date = the date of the first event the vendor works minus that vendor's lead time. The lead time is the shorter end of Zola's published range, or The Knot's for rentals and transportation, which Zola doesn't list, and for cake, where Zola only gives a tasting time. In the Anaya & Rohan example, the photographer starts at the mehndi on Friday, November 12, 2027, and 10 months ahead gives a book-by date of Tuesday, January 12, 2027.

**Why do Zola and The Knot give different lead times?**

The Knot updated its timeline in 2023 to reflect couples booking earlier since the pandemic, and its Real Weddings Study puts the average engagement at about 15 months. Zola's guide uses a one-year engagement as its frame. The tool shows both, and its date uses Zola's shorter lead time, so treat that date as the latest point to sign rather than the ideal.

**Do I need to book earlier for a peak-season wedding?**

Usually, yes. The Knot calls 9 to 12 months the general recommendation, suggests 12 to 18 months for summer and fall weddings, and puts peak season at May through October. For a short engagement it suggests booking 6 to 9 months ahead.

**Which date should I use for a multi-day wedding?**

Use the first event that vendor works. A photographer who covers the mehndi through the reception has to be booked against the mehndi date, while a DJ who only plays the sangeet can be counted from the sangeet. Run the tool once per vendor.

**Is the tool free, and is my data saved?**

Yes, it is free and needs no sign-up. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Your last choice is kept on this device only.
