How the calculator works

  1. Step 1: Count the henna guests

Only the guests who will sit for a design, not the whole mehndi list.

  2. Step 2: Pick the design

Simple on one hand, both hands or detailed, or fuller designs for the bridal party.

  3. Step 3: Set the hours

How long the stations stay open, to see how many artists clear the line in time.

The numbers:

artists = guests who want henna × minutes per design ÷ (hours of henna × 60), rounded up

Know who is coming to the mehndi

In PlanMe, each function is called a festivity, with its own guest list and RSVPs, so the mehndi headcount is a real number, not a guess. Track henna artist quotes in your budget and add the booking to your checklist.

Where the minutes come from

Henna by Heather's wedding henna guide says standard guest henna at weddings is typically 5 minutes per guest, or 12 an hour, for a simple design on one hand. Both hands, or a more intricate design on one, is closer to 10 minutes. Fuller designs for the bridal party take 20 minutes or more. The calculator uses those three paces.

Real lines move slower than the quoted pace: guests browse designs, ask for both hands or step away mid-queue. If your artist quotes a different pace, pick the closest option, or add an hour of buffer and close the stations before dinner or the performances. The bride's mehndi is a separate, hours-long booking, so it is never counted in the guest line.

To get the guest count, the guest attendance calculator estimates how many invited guests will come to the mehndi, and the vendor booking timeline shows how far ahead to book.

Mehndi artist questions

How many mehndi artists do I need for my guests?

Multiply the guests who want henna by the minutes each design takes, then divide by the minutes your henna stations are open and round up. Henna by Heather, a wedding henna studio, says standard guest henna is typically 5 minutes per guest, or 12 guests an hour per artist. At that pace, 60 guests over 2.5 hours need 2 artists.

How does the mehndi artist calculator work?

Artists = guests who want henna × minutes per design ÷ (hours of henna × 60), rounded up. In the Anaya & Rohan example, 90 guests want a simple design at 5 minutes each, which is 450 minutes of henna. With the stations open for 3 hours (180 minutes), that is 2.5, so they book 3 guest artists, and the line clears in about 2 hours 30 minutes.

How long does guest mehndi take per person?

Henna by Heather puts a simple design on one hand at about 5 minutes, both hands or a more intricate design at closer to 10 minutes, and fuller designs for the bridal party at 20 minutes or more. Ask your artist for their own pace and pick the closest option.

Does the count include the bride's mehndi?

No. The bride's own mehndi is a separate booking that takes hours, and that artist can't work the guest line at the same time. Book the bridal artist first, then use this count for the guests.

How do I know how many guests will want henna?

Not everyone at the mehndi will sit for a design, and the mehndi guest list is often smaller than the reception's. Start from the guests who said yes to the mehndi, then estimate the share who will want henna. Our combined mehndi and sangeet guide has more on running the henna line.

Is the calculator free, and is my data saved?

Yes, it is free and needs no sign-up. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Your last numbers are kept on this device only.
